Hello Friends!

Today I am in San Antonio on the first leg of my spring mini-book tour. I was a guest on KAAB-TV the FOX affiliate in San Antonio this morning to introduce my book to viewers and will be visiting with students at Ridgeview Elementary this afternoon. If you know anyone in the San Antonio, please tell them to stop by the Barnes and Noble in the San Pedro Shopping Center off of Loop 410 and San Pedro between 6:30 and 8:30pm this evening. I’ll be doing a special reading of “Katie and the Magic Umbrella”. We’ll have a severe weather discussion and book signing.

Then I’m on to Austin tonight for the last leg of my tour. I’ll be up bright and early Friday morning to be guest on KEYE-TV the CBS station in Austin with my good friend and former co-anchor Fred Cantu. Just like old times!!!!
Friday afternoon I’ll visit with students at Blackshear Elementary in east Austin and then head north for a book signing and reading at the Barnes & Noble in north Austin near Lakeline Mall. Address is 10000 Research Blvd.

On Saturday morning I’ll also be a guest on KXAN’s morning show. So look for that during the 8 o’clock hour.

If you can’t make the signing on Friday..I’ll be at the Barnes and Noble in the Arboretum area Saturday from 11am-1pm.

This week, I am attending a weather conference in Steamboat Springs, Colorado called “The Weather Summit.” I have been attending this conference off and on for the last 10 years. It is an invitation-only conference of broadcasts meteorologists from across the U.S. and North America. I am very honored to be on the list.

Because there are only 20-25 of us, we have the opportunity to learn and interact one-on-one with some of the nations leading scientists and meteorological experts in their fields. At other professional weather conferences like the AMS or NWA, the groups are so large that each presenter only has 10-20 minutes to share the latest on their topic or research. It can often be intimidating to ask questions and really get the information you are looking for with 500-600 people in the room. Not here, each expert/presenter spends at least 11/2-2 hours sharing with us the details of their research and then we have lots of time to ask questions and share in some often “spirited” conversation.

The main theme this year is Climate Change. We are also recapping the 2008 hurricane and tornado seasons. On the schedule are experts like Dr. Neil Frank (former Director of the National Hurricane Center) and Dr. Howie Bluestein with the University of Oklahoma. He is one of the nations leading tornado researchers.

Of course, Steamboat loves to have us here too because we all do live shots for our viewers back home. And now with new technology being introduced at the conference this year, we are able to stream video from our sessions LIVE.

Just in case you were wondering….there’s a 40″ base on the mountain.

It’s been sunny and in the upper 20’s, so the snow is packed. The good news, lot’s of new snow in the forecast by the end of the week. Powder, Baby!
